First piece of kit
A sneak peek at some of the new kit on its way, that’s the responsive mobile site wireframe right there…
New website coming soon
My new site is well along the way and should be on its way at some point soon.
I will be at UX Australia for thursday and fridays sessions, very much looking forward to it. Say hello if you are also attending.
Word play and reinforcing meaning
In stripping things back and having a less visual focus in design work a reoccurring theme throughout the construction of user experience has been the power and importance of words. Stripped back to the core words are the key driver of understanding and they need to be chosen and implemented well.
Amusement aside wordplay is about reinforcing meaning. The combination of words, the meaning and the flow is very important in creating an experience that is intriguing, directive and clear. Much like poetry, strength can be created through the interplay of words and the choice will add to the users desire to click through.
Like a finely crafted rhyme, flows, connections, parallels and juxtapositions are an equally important component of delivering user experience design. Your opening lines need to make an impact, the work needs to have a rhythm and fluidity, delivering a feeling in a form that is understood. Opening lines and introduction can take root and plant you in a masterpiece, pulling you in to the story that follows.
Publishing a custom font in an axure project
A handy hint with Axure 7.0, assuming you have a web server you can link to any webfont and not just google fonts. Using font2web you can generate your own .css file and upload it to your server and link to that in the same fashion as a google font.
Click publish and then Generate a HTML file in axure and go to the below screen to add the link to the generated stylesheets url.
Taking risks
I’m running a bit behind on Masterchef but really like this recent quote from Marco Pierre White it is not his exact words but more or less the following …
Being a risk taker by default means that sometimes you make mistakes. Sometimes you may try too hard and sometimes it can be easy to let others intimidate you. Don’t let others do it, don’t get bothered by distractions just enjoy it and live the moment. It’s far better taking the risk and you will learn far more.
Take more risks, challenge status quo, settle less and speak up more often.
App flows/frames
APP Flows, prototypes and a smidgen of visual design – basically dropping a photo in to the structure and turning off Axures sketch option.
Running on the adage “the best user experience requires no explanation” this app aims to be understood straight away by the end user and as such has no how to use this app screens. User testing affirmed this was the correct decision to make and it was not required.
